Located in Venice Beach, this project revitalizes the historic 72 Market Street restaurant space, originally designed by Morphosis architects Thom Mayne and Michael Rotundi. The architectural intervention respectfully updates the iconic space with a restrained, minimalist palette, modernizing the environment to accommodate a new generation of culinary programming led by original founder Tony Bill.

While preserving the original structural shell, the storefront facade was entirely reimagined through the introduction of a custom operable glazing system. These swing doors fully retract into integrated pockets between the exterior bar seating, actively dissolving the boundary between the dining room and the streetscape. A newly introduced front patio further activates the public realm and capitalizes on this highly permeable threshold.

The interior circulation was fundamentally reconfigured, anchoring the spatial sequence with a new bar volume in the southwest corner. Fixed perimeter lounge seating defines the edges of the dining room, allowing for adaptable, freestanding furniture arrangements in the center of the plan. To comprehensively support this updated front-of-house program, the back-of-house footprint was simultaneously reorganized to optimize service efficiency.
